The aim of the Geography UTME syllabus is to prepare candidates for the Board’s examination. It is designed to test their achievement of the following objectives:

Demonstrate knowledge of man’s physical and human environment and how man lives and earns a living on the earth’s surface with special reference to Nigeria and Africa.
Show understanding of the interrelationship between man and his environment.
Apply geographical concepts, skills and principles to solving problems.

I. Practical Geography
Maps – scale and measurement of distances, areas reduction & enlargement, directions, bearings and gradients (with reference to topographical maps).
Map reading and interpretation – drawing cross profiles, recognition of inter-visibility, description of physical & human features from maps.
Interpretation of statistical data, maps and diagrams.
Elementary surveying (chain & prismatic traverse, open & close traverse) – procedure, problems, advantages & disadvantages.

Apply different types of scale to distance and area measurement.
Use knowledge of scale for gradients, map reduction & enlargement.
Illustrate the relief of an area through profile drawing.
